Jodie Heffren, Rooted Woodland

It all begins with an idea.

Case Study: Jodie Heffren - Refining and Amplifying Jodie’s healing retreat in the woods

The Work: Cultivating Growth and Transformation with Strategy and Systems

Meet Jodie, a compassionate Registered Nurse with over 17 years of experience, whose journey of healing and transformation led her to retreat to the serenity of the woods alongside her husband, also a first-responder, and their two young daughters. Nestled in the heart of the Blue Mountains, Jodie discovered solace and inspiration amidst the tranquil beauty of her 42-acre forest property, aptly named Rooted Woodland.

As the founder of Rooted Woodland, Jodie offers a variety of events and services aimed at nurturing holistic wellness and personal growth. At her woodland sanctuary, Jodie facilitates Contrast therapy sessions, inviting guests to experience the rejuvenating benefits of cold plunge and sauna amidst nature's embrace. Additionally, she hosts breathwork and personal development workshops, providing a space for individuals to explore inner healing and self-discovery.

Despite her clear vision and passion for creating transformative experiences, Jodie found herself grappling with the challenges of technology and the pressures of trying to help everyone who knocked on her door. As she sought clarity on the direction of her business, she realized that navigating the intricacies of tech and managing interpersonal dynamics were hindering her progress, leaving her feeling overwhelmed and stuck in the weeds.

In the midst of this journey, Jodie recognized the need for strategic support and guidance to steer her business towards its fullest potential. It was at this pivotal moment that she turned to Coworking Days, seeking the collaborative expertise and focused assistance needed to overcome obstacles and propel her vision forward. Join us as we delve into Jodie's transformative experience with Coworking Days and discover how strategic collaboration paved the way for her business growth and personal fulfillment.

Project Goals: Ease, Efficiency, Clarity

At the outset of our collaboration, Jodie and I established clear project goals aimed at refining her business strategy and enhancing operational efficiency. Key objectives included:

  • Defining Ideal Client Avatars (ICAs) for each service

  • Mapping out pricing structures and onboarding strategies

  • Enhancing clarity regarding target audience and value proposition

  • Busting through tech-blockers

  • Creating automated systems for client onboarding

The Coworking Day, at a Glance:

STEP 1: Comprehensive Preparation

Before embarking on the Coworking Day journey, meticulous preparation sets the stage for success. Here's how Jodie and I laid the groundwork:

  • Prep Form and Preliminary Call: Jodie completed a comprehensive prep form, followed by a 30-minute preliminary call. This ensured that both parties entered the session with a clear understanding of goals and objectives.

STEP 2: THE Coworking Day

Our Coworking Day kicked off with a warm welcome and refreshments at the picturesque Lora Bay Clubhouse, setting the stage for a productive and collaborative session. Here's a glimpse into our day:

  • Reviewing Ideal Client Avatars (ICAs): We dove into detailed discussions to define ICAs for each service, ensuring a deep understanding of Jodie's target audience and their specific needs.

  • Building Concise and Detailed Service Offerings: Acting as the NorthStar of Jodie’s Business Plan, we took her year’s worth of iterations and learnings to format a refined and detailed outline of all Rooted Woodland offerings. These include ICAs for each offer, pricing, inclusions, exclusions, and prose descriptions. We took it a step further and mapped out the customer journey for each service.

  • Constructing Website Wireframe: With clarity on target audience and services, we embarked on constructing a website wireframe within Jodie's web builder, streamlining the site's structure and enhancing user experience.

  • Customizing Client Contracts: Concurrently, Jodie began customizing client contracts within existing templates, ensuring legal compliance and personalized client interactions.

  • Providing Real-Time Technical Assistance: Throughout the day, I offered real-time technical assistance and support, addressing any challenges Jodie encountered with her website platform and tech tasks.

  • Fostering Collaboration and Creativity: Amidst our productive sessions, we enjoyed snacks, laughter, and brainstorming sessions, fostering a dynamic and collaborative atmosphere conducive to innovation.

Thank you
I spent some time down at the water. I feel really good. Exhausted, but good! I hven’t felt like this in a long time.
I’m grateful to have you on my team!
— Jodie Heffren (immediately after the day's conclusion)

STEP 3: Follow Up

As the Coworking Day draws to a close, it's essential to reflect on achievements and ensure continuity in the journey towards business growth:

  • Reflection and Strategy Documentation: We take a moment to reflect on our accomplishments and ensure that all predetermined goals have been met. Within 24 hours, Jodie receives an 18-page strategy document outlining her next steps, providing her with a clear roadmap for implementation.

  • Follow-Up Call: In a couple of weeks, we officially wrap up our collaboration with a 30-minute follow-up call, ensuring continuity and support as Jodie implements her action plan.

Outcome: Clarity, Calm, Fierce Dedication to her mission

Jodie's journey exemplifies the transformative power of collaborative support and strategic guidance provided by Coworking Days. Through focused efforts, clear communication, and a shared commitment to success, we were able to propel Jodie's business forward and set the stage for future growth. The Work: Establishing a Presence on the Stage

Jaime Armstrong, a dedicated Registered Psychotherapist, entrusted me with the exciting challenge of elevating her presence as a public speaker. Our collaboration exceeded our initial vision, culminating in the creation of not one, but two impactful stage performances within five months, and raising $5000 for a local women’s shelter.

Project Goals: Shaping Jaime's Stage Presence and Beyond

  2. Build a Team of Contractors: Orchestrating a Seamless Production To turn Jaime's vision into reality, we set out to build a dedicated team of contractors. This collaborative effort involved assembling experts in creative direction, event logistics, marketing, sponsorship, audiovisual support, and guest experience to ensure the success of both shows.

  3. Launching her Public Speaking Career Beyond the stage, our focus extended to spotlighting Jaime as an authority in the field of outdated mental health education. This initiative included strategic marketing efforts, media engagements, and positioning Jaime as a sought-after speaker for future events.

Impact Beyond the Stage: Advocacy for Domestic Violence

Jaime's second show took on a special emphasis, shedding light on the domestic violence crisis in Canada. Through ticket sales and sponsorships, the event raised $2500 for My Friend's House, a non-profit agency supporting abused women in the Georgian Triangle. This amount was matched, resulting in a total donation of $5000.

Beyond Expectations: Taking the Shows on Tour

The impact of Jaime's public speaking events spread wider than she could have ever imagined. The success of her performances not only established her as a thought leader but also allowed her to contribute significantly to a cause she deeply cares about. Inspired by this success, Jaime now plans to take her shows on tour, extending her reach and influence.

The Institute of Southern Georgian Bay

Almost 2 years of Thought Partnership has taken this volunteer-driven, non-profit organization out of start-up mode and into on-going enterprise.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
